Dian Mabel Layton (nee Thomson) (affectionately known as Hugga-Wugga) of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away in her home on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the age of 65. Dian was born June 4, 1953 in Olds, Alberta.

Dian was a pastor, storyteller, song-writer, playwright, punster and author. Her written works include the Two Princesses, Oooky Pooky Spooky Fear, Soldiers With Little Feet and the SEEKER stories. Dian wanted children to really get to KNOW King Jesus, not just know ABOUT him. She believed God likes using LITTLE people to do BIG things, and she built faith, character and confidence in countless kids. Her 43 year career equipping children and families continues to shape generations.

Dian met her future husband, Barry Layton, through her volunteer ministry at Michener Centre in Red Deer, where Barry worked as a chaplain. They married June 14, 1986.

Dian loved her boys and any chance to help plan their travel adventures, many of which kept her praying! Her boys remember each day with their mom being a day with royalty.

Dian was predeceased by her parents Wylie (2008) and Helen Thomson (2000), parents-in-law James (1994) and Dora Layton (2003), nephew Jason (1987), great-niece Melissa (1998), sister-in-law Merlene (2002), nephew-in-law Daniel (2014), brother-in-law Rick (2015) and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Mourning her passing are her husband Barry of Red Deer, their two sons, Benjamin and Johnathan of Calgary, brother Jim Thomson of Olds, sister Mary (Robert) Deisman of Olds, sister Florence Thomson of Olds, brother Brian (Connie) Thomson of Red Deer, brother-in-law Gordon (Patricia) Layton of Edmonton, nieces and nephews Bradley (Jodi), Jeffery (Jessica), Joy (JD), Ryan (Sarah), Karissa (Garrick), Brayden (Candace), niece-in-law Jennifer (Joseph), niece-in-law Heather (Troy), and many great-nieces and nephews.

Dian’s family sincerely thanks Dr. M. Maree, as well as the many oncologists, specialists and nurses who helped in her fight, and the staff at Red Deer Bremner Ave Community Health Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home of Hope,, a non-profit organization founded by Dian’s brother Brian, helping international desperate children and widows.

A public service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2019, 1:00pm, at Home Church in Red Deer. Private interment at Hainstock Cemetery, west of Olds, Alberta.

Dian was an amazing woman whose legacy of love, creativity and generosity will resonate through the generations. Shortly after I graduated high school, I had the opportunity to go on many adventures with her, helping with children's church and community outreach programs in Red Deer. I will be forever grateful for her friendship, mentorship, and enduring encouragements. Her faith, joy and love for those around her was incredibly inspiring. I will cherish the times I got to spend with her and will continue to be inspired by her legacy for years to come.

My daughter, who is 8 years old (Kalia), and I had the honor and privilege to meet Dian Layton at the Sid Roth, "It's Supernatural" studio audience. We found her to be vivacious, humorous and refreshing. We only met her briefly, yet she made an eternal impact on us. We couldn't wait order all of her resources. They are powerful and practical. My daughter already had one of Dian's seeker books, which is why we came to the program. I had contacted her on Facebook, before the show to ask her to sign Kalia's book. She embraced me immediately and called me her "new friend." Wow!! What a special lady. She was an effective minister that made a difference in the lives of children and their parents. In addition, my daughter was so touched by her that she told me that she wanted to teach the Ooky, Pooky, Spooky fear book and song to her friends during recess at her "public" school. Dian' s influence has went further than she will ever know. Our hearts and prayers go out to you her family and friends who had the blessing of knowing her for quite some time. Philippians 4:7. She will truly be missed, but never forgotten. I Timothy 5:17

To know this woman, just look at the titles of some of her works of wonder,’Seeker’,’Wanderer’,’Dreamer’,and now, finally,’Rescued’,and in the arms of her King. She leaves her faithful Barry, and the rest of us,to remember how she touched our lives, and how her greatest wish is that we will continue to be “ Carriers of the Kingdom”.

This wonderful woman of God has passed on... My heart is saddened yet I rejoice for she has gone to be with the Lord.

I did not know Dian layton personally ( but I would have loved to meet her or even have a conversation with her). I was I introduces to her by a loved one who blessed me with her audio CD equipping /building kingdom kids. What a wealth of information. I was so inspired and receptive to all that she had to share about the two subjects for which the CDs are titled after. I can relate to her testimony and hence I was so thirsty for more of this revelation the Lord has given her over the years. My 3 year old son loves her songs and I purchased for him the ookie pookie spooky fear song and book and as he grows I hope to buy him more of Dian's material to help him (as she would put it) know Jesus and not just know about Jesus. As for me I will soak up as much as I can from her teachings and hope to make a positive impact in the lives of children here where I am.

This women has left a wonderful legacy to help shape children to be all that they can be by knowing Jesus and not just knowing about Jesus.

She did not go with all her revelations but she poured it out in books, CDs , lesson plans etc ... A true legacy ... may the revelations the Lord gave her be shared and applied to the young of this generations.

God bless you Dian Layton for all that you poured out with such zeal, sincerity, energy and passion for children and for Christ.

God richly bless your work and my dearest condolences to her family (having had her among you within your family makes each one of you truly blessed; for she was a woman so sought after yet she was yours)

May your positive memories and photos bring you moments of sweet reminiscing... and may the Holy Spirit be your comforter in this time of loss.
