Obituary for Maureen Margaret Sommerville (Brown)

SOMMERVILLE, Maureen
1950 – 2019
Maureen Margaret Sommerville, beloved wife of Wayne Sommerville, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the age of 68 years. Maureen was born on December 5, 1950 in Castor, Alberta. In her late teens the family moved to Three Hills, Alberta, where she met her husband, Wayne. They each moved to Calgary, where Maureen attended Mount Royal College. Shortly after, the couple married on August 22, 1970. They welcomed their first daughter, Kimberley on December 19, 1974, and then moved to Carbon, Alberta in 1976. Their second daughter Kerri, was born on September 16, 1979. The family lived in Carbon for twenty-two years, where Maureen volunteered on various committees and community groups. She also started working at the Carbon School, once her children were in school. This is where her journey began; as a School Librarian. In 1998, they made the move to Red Deer, where, shortly after, she continued her journey working in the Elementary School Library. Maureen loved nothing more than working with children, and being surrounded by books. She shared her love of books and building the imagination of children, through reading. Maureen’s greatest pride was her grandchildren, Addison and Merric. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with them. Maureen will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Wayne, her daughters, Kimberley (Ken) MacAulay, Kerri (Jeff) Roe, and her grandchildren, Addison and Merric. She will also be sadly missed by her siblings, Wendy (Mike), Joy (Scott), Glenda, Don (Sereta), in-laws, Bruce (Darlene), Ian (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and friends who are family. Maureen was predeceased by her father, Donald Brown and her mother, Margaret Pallesen, her step father, Clifford Pallesen, her in-laws, Ruth and Sandy Sommerville, Iona Sommerville and brother in-law Bill Spady.
