Obituary for Arthur Ernest Williams

Mr. Arthur Ernest Williams passed away peacefully to a better place at the Sunset Manor in Innisfail, Alberta on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the age of 91 years with family by his side. Arthur was a lifelong resident of the Great Bend area near Delburne, Alberta. Arthur was born on the family farm in the Great Bend District to Raby and Sybil (nee Knights) Williams. Arthur was the youngest of six boys, followed by two sisters. His working career started at age sixteen at $0.75/hour for ten hour days working on a threshing crew for neighbors. He thought he'd hit pay dirt when he hired on with Casey Bysterveld's moving outfit at $5.00/day plus room and board! He learned his truck driving and Cat operating skills while working for Jack Lynass, but farming was always in his heart and he pursued it with a passion. A born story teller, he took great delight in being one of the District Editors on Delburne's history book. His bent for writing, later in life, brought him much pleasure with the publishing of his comic stories of neighbor, Charlie Norton. Arthur was the family historian. Arthur and Mary retired to Delburne, Alberta in 1990, but he still kept his finger on the farm and took great enjoyment in raising Quarter Horses, Buckskins, of course! Arthur was the master of many talents, which he took for granted. As with most farmers, he could fix, repair or build anything that was required. He took much joy in family and nothing made him happier than spending time with grandchildren, fishing if possible. Although he was very tired of his long battle with Parkinson's he managed to hang on until his two great-grands made their appearance. Arthur is survived by his wife of thirty four years, Mary; his daughter, Susan (Doug); his son, Timothy (Kelly); stepdaughters, Sharyl (Mike) and Dawn (Dick). His twelve grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon, Jared, Shane, Clayton, Dustin, Curt, Kyle, Andrew, Emily, Amy, and Thomas; two great grandchildren, Emsley, Carter and one on the way; his sisters, Thelma and Sylvia; and his first wife, Blanche. Arthur was predeceased by his father and mother, Raby and Sybil Williams and his brothers, Robert, Donald, Eric, Dennis and Keith. A Celebration of Arthur’s Life will be held at the Delburne Community Hall on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place prior to service at the Great Bend Cemetery, Delburne, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Arthur’s honor may be made directly to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinsonassociation.ca or Boomtown Trail Church.
