Obituary for Laverne Harlin Weidman

Mr. Laverne Harlin Weidman passed away peacefully at the Leduc Community Hospital, Leduc, Alberta on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the age of 88 years. He was born in Olds, Alberta on October 2, 1930 to Fred and Annie Weidman. He spent his early years on the family farm in the Reid Ranch Area until they moved to Leduc, where he grew up. With a large family in tough economic times, he quit school in grade Six to contribute to the household expenses. His altruism and generosity continued throughout his life. He had several jobs, but finally ended up on the Drilling Rigs.He later met the love of his life, RozalmaBulat and they were married in November, 1952. When they started a family, they settled in the Calmar area. In 1961, they sold their business (L&R Construction) and Laverne went to work as a battery operator. Over the years, they lived in New Norway, Buck Creek, Calmar, Violet Grove, Kindersley, Eckville, Lloydminster and Stettler, but finally returned to Eckville, the place they called home. After the loss of his wife of sixty-five years, he enjoyed a brief stay at the Eckville Manor House, and then transferred to the Leduc Extendicare, where he was close to many family members until his passing.Laverne will be lovingly remembered by his son, Wayne (Frances) Lange), his daughter, Donna (Laurent Labonte), his sisters Nita Sheppard and Judy Robinson, his brother, Ray, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Laverne was predeceased by his wife, (Rozalma), his parents, (Fred and Annie Weidman), his brothers (Arden, Garry, Elvan, Donnie and Ivan), his sisters (Betty-Lou Labrequeand Darlene Wytyshyn), a nephew, (Johnny Wytyshyn) and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. A Celebration of Lavern's Life will be held at the Eckville Community Centre, 5305 - 52 Street, Eckville, Alberta on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Laverne’s honor may be made directly to the Eckville Manor House, 5111- 51 Street, Eckville Alberta, T0M 0X0, or to the Eckville food bank at c/o Eckville FCSS, Box 39, Eckville, Alberta, Tom OX0.
