It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Patrick ‘Hugh’ Lindsay, after a short battle with cancer, in Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the age of 74 years. Hugh was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 10, 1945. He attended St. Mary’s High School, and continued on to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, graduating as a Petroleum Technologist. Hugh spent the majority of his career as a Petroleum Fluids Engineer. His career took him and his family to Scotland, Singapore, and Ireland; as well as travelling to numerous countries which included: Norway, Nigeria, Angola, the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, the Middle East, Miramar, and Canada’s East Coast on a month on, month off rotation, working primarily on offshore rigs. Hugh always loved car racing. In his younger years, he loved to rally, hill climb and ice racing. Later, he would be up in the early hours to watch Formula One International Racing, rarely missing a race. Being city raised, Hugh loved the quietness of the acreage. He was not a gardener, but would ride the lawn mower and cultivator for hours, working on his tan. Hugh valued his friendships and was still in contact with friends he made in High School, the North Sea and Singapore; his neighbours, and his buddies at East Fortieth. He appreciated that he was fortunate; that he had a good life, and he always had a soft spot for the less fortunate. The family was blessed that he managed his condition with grace, and was always appreciative of all the help he received. He kept his sense of humour to the end, an attribute that always endeared him to his family and friends, throughout his life. Hugh will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Helen; his mother, Elizabeth Skjonsberg; his children, Michael (Teresa), Heather, Joanne (Lee) Smith, and Graeme. He was a loving Grandpa to Craig, Arin, Shae and Atlin. Hugh will also be sadly missed by his extended family in Ontario. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Home Care who looked after him at home, and on Units 32 and 31 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, for taking such wonderful care of him. Prayers will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta, on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 6 McMillan Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Father Len Cadieux Celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Calgary, Alberta in the spring of 2019.
