TOIVANEN, Onni Erkki
Feb. 29, 1932, Juuka, Finland - Dec. 7. 2018, Red Deer, AB

On December 7, Onni passed away at Bethany Collegeside. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Eila; son Kari (Donna); daughter Kirsi (Kurt); grandchildren Sarah (Greg), Maija (Matt), Andy (Breanna), Matthew; great-grandchildren Kenzie and Raelyn, River, Parker and Carson all of Red Deer; brothers Ensio, Eino and sisters Hilkka, Toini, Vieno, Elvi and Eila all of Finland as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Finland. Onni was predeceased by his mother, Kristiina and father, Antti. He and his family immigrated to Canada in 1967 settling in Thunder Bay, Ontario, living there for 14 years. He worked very hard as a lumberjack and a carpenter. In 1981, the family moved to Red Deer. In 1982 while working on a construction site, he fell and broke his back and he was unable to work again. He was very active in his church, was an avid reader, and had a keen interest in politics. Funeral service will be Friday January 4, 2019 at 11:00 am at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287-67A Street, Red Deer, AB. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Society of Alberta, 1-5550-45 St. Red Deer, AB T4N 1L1. The family would like to thank the staff of B1 at Bethany Collegeside for the 6 years of loving care they provided for Onni.
