Obituary for Joseph Henry Ebl

Joseph Henry Ebl
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Joseph ‘Joe’ Henry Ebl in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the age of 91 years. Joe was born on the family farm at Evergreen, Alberta on July 3, 1927. He attended “Old” Knowledge School for basic education. Being raised during the depression, hard work was the norm and a strong work ethic stayed with him until the end. Money was hard to come by, so Joe did some trapping in the winter to earn some cash. He did well at this and enjoyed it. He also worked on threshing crews during Harvest Season. The most available off farm work was logging and sawmills; so he worked various places cutting timber, until he started his own camp at Nordegg, cutting mine prop timbers for the coal mines at Nordegg, Drumheller and East Coulee. Joe purchased a Three Ton GMC and hauled timber directly to the Drumheller Mines from Nordegg, quite a trip in those days. He earned enough to purchase a half section at Evergreen and switched to farming due to the demand for timber declining, as the mines began to close down. Joe married Jessie in January of 1955. They worked together to build up the farm and raised sons, Robert and David. Money was tight, so around mid 1960, they moved out to a logging camp south of Kamloops, where they worked and lived for a couple of years. They did well and returned to Evergreen to continue farming in 1962. In 1963, Jessie gave birth to another son, Patrick. The farm continued to grow and the expansion into a Dairy Operation made it a successful means to provide a decent living for the family. Joe and Jessie always loved their garden; all of the basic veggies, along with strawberries, apples and tomatoes. Joe planted his last garden this spring. Joe truly loved hunting and fishing and was very good at it. Family outings were out to Prairie Creek to find some trout. We will always remember those good times. Having lived for ninety-one years, there are so many stories to tell and laugh about, we’ll miss the coffee times and long visits with good friends and neighbours that were a true gem. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jessie, his sons, David (Barb) and Patrick (Marianne), his granddaughters, Sara and Amy, and his brothers, Eddie and George. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Annie, his brothers, Harry and Frank, and a son, Robert. A Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at Evergreen Community Hall, Condor, Alberta on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040 or 1.800.481.7421.
