Obituary for Wilfred Nicholas "Willie" Gramlich

GRAMLICH, Wilfred Nicholas
August 1, 1936 – July 30, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Wilfred Nicholas ‘Willie’ Gramlich. He passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 81 years. Willie was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and moved with his parents and some siblings from the Family Farm to Kelowna, British Columbia in 1946. Willie was second youngest in a family of eleven. He graduated from Kelowna Secondary School in 1955. Willie married Jackie Fugger in 1958. He worked at Kelowna Builders, BC Tree Fruits, Mac & Mac Hardware, and then twelve years at Kelowna General Hospital in an office position. In 1975, the family moved to Red Deer, where he worked at Executive Homes Building Supplies. An opportunity came along with Canada Post, where he worked as a Letter Carrier until 1995; at which time he went on disability leave, which evolved into retirement. He was a Jack of all trades, building a beautiful pool table, and with the help of the Reader’s Digest Complete Do-it-Yourself Manual, he finished the basements in all our homes. As a young adult, he played softball, lacrosse, and bowled (after a few years of being a pin-setter). He took up golf, and would have kept on to this day but his back said “No!”. After retirement, he enjoyed family time, playing cards and pool, and was an avid reader. He enjoyed watching sports on TV; especially golf, tennis, and curling, and the playoffs of most other sports. He was the glue that held the family together. He always called around to make sure we were connected.Willie is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, Jackie; his children, Wendy Beaudin, Geoff Gramlich, and Diane Gramlich; his grandchildren, Katie (Brad) Holmes, Sarah Beaudin, Alex Beaudin, Stephanie Gramlich (Darrell Horton), Nicki Gramlich (Sven Stave); and his great grandchildren, Liam and Camilla Holmes. He will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Jovita Schiebelbein, Joe (Gertie) Gramlich, Don (Gwen) Gramlich, Minnie Farr and Irene Rieger.Willie was predeceased by his parents, Anton (1969), Eleanor (1982); siblings Anton (2014), Wendlin (1986), Johnny (1983), Mary (1996), and Les (2015) and a son-in-law, Marlin Styner (2014). A Celebration of Willie’s Life will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta, with Pastor Glenn Fretz officiating, In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to the charity of their choice.
