Obituary for Nola Shellaine Neufeld

Nola Shellaine Neufeld
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Nola Shellaine Neufeld in Red Deer, Alberta on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the age of 53 years. Nola was born in Calgary on the very stormy night of November 20, 1964. She moved to Lacombe in her Teen years, had a brief stay in Red Deer in 1983, and then moved to Blackfalds in 1985. Her life had many challenges, both personal and with her health. Nola always met these challenges with strength, poise, and a few tears. She was a very stubborn Scorpio who lived up to her Astrology Sign even though, if she had been born just two days later, she’d have been a Sagittarius. Nola is survived by her father, Henry ‘Hank’ Neufeld; brother, Steve Neufeld (nephew, Jason and niece, Talia); sister, Wendy Neufeld (niece, Morgan, nephews, Christian, Jorden, Ryan, his wife Anela and great nephews, Leo and Roman); brother-in-law, Bob Antila, (nephews, Christopher and Patrick); and her sister by heart and best friend of thirty-seven years, Cindy Coubrough. Nola is also survived by a large contingent of step siblings , step-in-laws and nieces and nephews; Lisa, Brenda, Nola, Howie, Bruce, Butch, Midge, Lorie and Don. She will be sadly missed by many family and friends. Nola was predeceased by her mother, Lilian; a sister, Melody Antila (nee Neufeld); and step mom, Lorna Neufeld (Bos). The last four years had been a struggle for Nola when she was hospitalized in 2014; unable to walk, and later that year, was moved into Extendicare Michener Hill. Her health had been delicate since her diagnosis of Neuromyelitis Optica, as it gradually took away her independence. She met each challenge with a smile, her sarcastic sense of humour and dry wit. The highlight of her week was cuddle Sunday, when she was visited by her cat, Missy, for cuddles and love. A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of Units 1600 and 1700; as well as Brandy and Melissa at Extendicare Michener Hill, who provided comfort and care over the last four years. In accordance with Nola’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest in the Blackfalds Cemetery, Blackfalds, Alberta. A Celebration of Nola’s Life will be held at a later date.. If desired, Memorial Donations in Nola’s honour may be made directly to the Canadian Transverse Myelitis Association at www.mytm.ca; or to the MS Society at www.mssociety.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
