Obituary for Walter Alfred Fick

Walter Alfred Fick
FICK, Walter
Feb. 16, 1931 – Nov. 24, 2017
After almost 87 years as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, psychologist, teacher, avid reader, beekeeper and gardener, Walt’s gone fishing. Which is just fine, because he loved fishing. That love was born and grew as he fished the creeks and rivers around Kimberly, BC. and Marvel Lakes. Walter’s father, Alfred, was a miner in the Sullivan Mine, and his mother, Mary, took wonderful care of Alfred, Walter, and Walter’s younger sister, Isabel. After High School, Walter moved to Calgary where he met Nancy Ozar at a dance at Penley’s Dancing Academy. They were married August 14, 1954. Two children and many years later, Walter, Nancy, Karen and Warren moved to Red Deer where Walter taught Psychology at Red Deer College. The kids grew, Nancy did the books at Great West Feeds, and Walter continued teaching for 25 years. Nancy and Walter bought a quarter section east of town that was farmed by some great local growers and where Walter enjoyed another great passion: bee keeping. Over the years, Walter and Nancy walked the side roads, enjoying wildlife sightings and the passing of the seasons. For a time, Walter and Nancy were great travelers. Over the years they visited Australia, New Zealand, India, Europe, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and took numerous cruises. Walter was predeceased by his sister, Isabel, and his parents, Mary and Alfred. Surviving Walter are his wife Nancy, daughter Karen Williamson (Peter), his son Warren (Susan), as well as his granddaughter, Emily Morrow-Fick, and his nephew, Bill Nance. The family would like to thank Dr. Taiwo, Dr. Ford, and the wonderful, caring staff at Points West Care Facility for their compassionate care of Walter. In honor of Walter’s wish, there will be no funeral.
