Obituary for Alexis Ann Van Someren

Alexis Ann Van Someren
Alexis passed away peacefully in her sleep, in Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the age of 26 years. Alexis was born and raised in Red Deer and lived her entire life in this city. Alexis blossomed into one of the most beautiful women that her friends and family would ever have the pleasure of having close to them.

Alexis was a bright shining star; she was the warmth that invited the people she loved to gravitate around her, like a perfectly orchestrated solar system. She took delicate care in every friendship, championed for the lost, and defended all she knew. She whole heartedly gave herself to her family.

Alexis’ heart and soul sparkled the most when she was surrounded by people she loved. Although the adoption was not complete, the light of her life was her son, Dominick and she delighted in her pets, Minnie and Mouse. Her contagious laugh would ripple through any crowd she stood in. Her soul was good, kind and gentle. She loved to help any and everyone who needed it. More than that, Alexis would go to the ends of the earth to help someone for no other reason than it brought her happiness to help someone up off their knees, take care of them and send them on their way, so much happier. Her ability to see and fall in love with the small beauties in the world was a trait to envy. It didn’t matter how difficult things were, she always found a silver lining in every cloud and shared it with those around her. Alexis enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, whether it was taking Dominick and Minnie for a walk, or floating down the river, she was always up for fun and laughter.

Alexis will be lovingly remembered by her beloved son, ‘Little Prince’ Dominick, her mother, Kathleen Thomas, her father, Ken, her brothers, Joe and Nathan (Taryn). She will also be sadly missed by her grandma, Claire; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and so many amazing friends. Alexis was predeceased by her grandma, Sharon Thomas, grandpa, Floyd ‘Bud’ Booth and grandpa, John. In efforts to keep up with Alexis’ random acts of kindness and love for others, the family is requesting that flowers be given to a senior, maybe in a nursing home, who does not have family or get many visitors and needs a smile. Her love and compassion for all children was a very important part of her life, so to honor her please consider any act of kindness that makes a child smile. In addition, Alexis was passionate about Aspire, and the learning and patience that comes with it.

A Celebration of Alexis’ Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium 6287 – 67A Street, (Taylor Drive) Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Donations in Alexis’ honor may be made directly to Central Alberta Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Network, Red Deer at www.centralfasd.org/ or to Aspire School, Red Deer at www.aspirespecialneeds.ca/.
