Obituary for Edna Irene Whamond

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Edna Irene Whamond at the Northcott Care Centre in Ponoka, Alberta on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the age of 97 years. Edna will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Whamond, Randy (Marj) Whamond, Wendy (Len) Antherien and Diana (Neal) Buist; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews; as well as great nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her husband, Archibald ‘Archie’ Whamond; her brothers, Henry, Howard and Ford Scott and a sister, Edith Enge. She will also be sadly missed by extended family and friends. Edna was born on November 12, 1921 in Millet, Alberta, to Gideon and Clara Scott. She spent most of her younger years at Fallis, Alberta, where she attended school. During World War II, she moved to Edmonton to work at the Swift’s Packing Plant. It was here that she met her beloved Archie, and they were married in Edmonton in 1947. Edna and Archie farmed in Donalda for twenty-six years before moving to Red Deer in 1973. Edna was employed at a Fabric Store in Parkland Mall for several years, and was most helpful in giving sewing advice to customers regarding materials and their suitability for various patterns. She entered her own handicrafts in the Red Deer, and Central Alberta Fairs, where she won many ribbons. Relatives and friends always enjoyed the evenings at her home where they worked together on their craft projects, and Edna was most willing to give needle craft instruction. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Northcott Care Centre and Dr. Du Toit, for the wonderful care she received while there. A Celebration of Edna's Life will be held in the spring. Details will be posted at a later date. If desired, Memorial Donations in Edna’s honor may be made directly to the Parkinson Association of Alberta at www.parkinsonassociation.com or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation at www.albertacancer.ca.
