Obituary for Kelvin William "Kelly" Staples

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Kelvin ‘Kelly’ William Staples, after losing the courageous battle with cancer, that he fought without complaining for almost three years, in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 48 years. Kelly was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on March 10, 1970 to Bryan Staples and Jacquelyn Jobb (Sumner). Kelly graduated High School in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1989. Upon graduation, he immediately enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, as an EO Technician and retired after over twenty years of service. Kelly served in Shilo, Kosovo, Borden, The Golan Heights, Afghanistan and Edmonton. He started a second career as an Electrician but retired due to his health. Kelly’s bucket list was full and he accomplished everything on that list before he left us. We think he started a second bucket, and emptied that one as well. Kelly loved family, friends, animals, travel, the Oilers, and gourmet cooking. His smile and enthusiasm would light up a room.
Rest well, Master Corporal Kelvin Staples, CD (Retired). Our Kelly.
Kelly will be sadly missed by his wife, Lyla (Hiebert) and her daughters, Darien and Dae-Lynn. He will also be sadly missed by his parents, Bryan and Jean Staples and his second dad, Tom Jobb; his brother, Gord (Sharon) and niece, Jordyn; his three special aunts, Ferne Leslie, Lucille (Bob) Elvins and Marlene Bulloch; as well as his large Newfoundland Family - too many to mention and many cousins and dear friends. Kelly was predeceased by his mother, Jacquelyn Jobb; grandparents, George and Blanche Staples, and uncles, Garry Bulloch and Barry Leslie. A Celebration of Kelly’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Kelly’s honour may be made directly to the Cross Cancer Institute at www.albertacancer.ca/cross-cancer-institute or to Valour Place at www.valourplace.ca.
