Obituary for Margaret Beatrice "Betty" Mottus (Walls)

1931 – 2017
Betty Mottus of Eckville passed away peacefully, with her children by her side, after a short illness, at the University of Alberta Hospital on Monday March 20, 2017 at the age of 85 years. She was born on August 23, 1931 in Fort Saskatchewan. The family moved to the Gimlet district where Betty spent her childhood years. She met Art Mottus in the 1940’s and they were married November 6, 1948.
Betty and Art lived in Calgary, where Art worked for Shaw Construction, as a welder. During the summer months, the family lived in a small trailer, in various camps, while the Trans Canada Highway and Highway 93 were being built. They returned to the Mottus family farm in 1962, where they lived out their years. They loved spending the summers camping with family and the winters following their grandchildren to hockey, 4-H and other activities. Betty was very proud of each her grandchildren and their personal, professional and academic achievements. She instilled in them a love of family and helped all of them achieve happiness, and their goals.
Betty is lovingly remembered by her children, Dianne Mottus of Mallaig, Tom and Penny Mottus of Lacombe, Louise and Doug Moench of Eckville and Terri and Gerry Cunningham of Eckville, her grandchildren Alex (Deb) Mottus of Barrhead, Lindsey (Justin Wehner) Mottus of Santa Barbara, California, David (Kendra) Mottus of Morningside, Leanna (Dan Alfieri) Mottus of Edmonton, Corey (Kendera) Mottus of Three Hills, Kandice (Jeremy Zimmerman) Wynia of Buck Lake, Krystal (Quintin) Steynen of Lethbridge, Jerimy (Deanne) Cunningham of Lethbridge and Melanie (Greg) Miko of Pierceland, Sask. Betty also has 14 Great Grand children.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Art, in 2004 and her oldest son Jack, in 2013.
As per Betty’s wishes, a formal funeral will not be held. A private family viewing will be held on Saturday, March 25, followed by a family get-together. Her ashes will be interred at the Gilby Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
