Obituary for James Martin "Jim" McMeckan

James Martin "Jim"  McMeckan
James (Jim) McMeckan passed away at Michener Extendicare, Red Deer on Friday, January 20, 2017 at the age of 79 years. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and relatives. Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn, step son James Powers, step daughter Debbie Powers, daughters; Barbara McMeckan and Carol (Ken) Fewchuk, grandchildren Maverick and Bria Fewchuk, step grandchildren Luke and Mark Powers, great grandchildren Adam and William Powers. He is also survived by a brother Johnny (Marianne) McMeckan. Jim was predeceased by his parents Zillah and William McMeckan, son Jerry, brother William and sister Margaret Shockey. After leaving school Jim worked at Westinghouse in Edmonton. He then went on to owning his own cleaning business and eventually into the trucking business as a gravel truck owner and then into long haul driving for many years. Jim was a talented hockey player and spent several years coaching minor hockey. He also took an avid interest in his community and served on community boards. At Jim’s request, there will not be a service.
