It allows family and friends a place to re-visit, interact with each other, share and enhance this tribute for future generations. Obituary for Elva Elnora Wimmer

Elva Elnora Wimmer was born in Castor, Alberta on October 31, 1926 to Ross and Zillah Weeks. Elva grew up living on a farm in the Fleet District. Elva took her schooling at the Fleet Public School, through to Grade 12. After completing High School, she went to Calgary and took Business at Galbraith College. Following her Post-Secondary Schooling, she returned to Castor, in 1945, and was employed in the office of the Creamery. Elva returned to Calgary the following year, and worked at the Burns Egg Drying Plant. The following year, Elva once again returned to Castor and was employed at the Telephone Office. Elva married Ernest Wimmer on October 1, 1947. To this union, three children were born: Sandra, Brian and Barry. All children received their schooling in Castor. During Elva’s years in Castor, she held various jobs, but returned to Calgary in 1974, to finish out her years in employment, and retired in 1992. Elva lived in Calgary from 1974 to 2016. Elva enjoyed travelling, playing cards, baking, visiting with friends, both near and far, attending Stampede breakfasts and curling, even after having two hip surgeries. Elva had a lengthy illness from the spring of 2016. She was hospitalized at the Peter Lougheed Hospital for a week before being transferred to the Red Deer Hospice, on September 19, 2016. Elva spent only three days in the Hospice before her passing on September 22, 2016. Elva leaves many to mourn her passing: her sister, Islay McKay and extended family; her children, Sandra Sturdy, Brian and Jean Wimmer, and Barry and Karen Wimmer. She also leaves: three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of friends from the Elva’s wish was to be cremated and she will be laid to rest in a Private Interment at the Castor Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 4310 – 39 Street, Red Deer, Alberta on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, T4R 3S6 or www.reddeerhospice.com.
