Obituary for Gordon Frederick Stehr

Gordon Frederick Stehr
Gordon passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 76 years after a brief but courageous battle with glioblastoma. He was born and raised in south-eastern Saskatchewan and moved to Alberta in 1961 where he continued to work in the oilfield construction industry for 47 years. While working in the Eckville area, Gordon met Norma (nee Rein) his loving wife of 49 years and made Edmonton their first home to start their family. His work eventually took them to Lloydminster where they settled for 17 years. Family life was very important to Gordon. While raising their 3 children, they enjoyed spending many summers at Loon Lake, SK with many friends. These special lifelong friendships have endured the test of time. In 1991, Gordon and Norma moved to central Alberta. Gordon retired from the oil patch in 2005. Throughout all his years, he remained active with hockey, walking, golfing, travelling, camping and fishing. He always loved a challenge, whether it be learning to kayak, climbing a fire tower or even climbing a Mayan Pyramid in Mexico. You could always find him improving or fixing something. Gordon was a kind, generous and very helpful man, always lending a hand when someone was in need. He was wise and reflective. He could have a conversation with anyone, anywhere about almost anything, especially hockey.....the Oilers of course. During his retirement years, Gordon and Norma enjoyed many well deserved vacations taking several cruises to places such as Europe, The Greek Islands, Alaska and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed wintering in California and Arizona with many close friends and new acquaintances. Gordon's love was returned to him every day by every member of his family; wife, Norma; daughters, Cheryl and Lorie (Darren Thiem); son, Darren (Melissa); granddaughters, Samantha, Megan, Taya and Addison. Gordon is also survived by his sisters, Bertha and Margaret (Daryll) (both in B.C.) and brothers Chris (Gayle) and Andy (both in Saskatchewan), and numerous other relatives and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 1:30 pm at the Parkland Funeral Home 6287 - 67A Street, Red Deer, AB. Casual attire suggested. A Private Family Interment will take place. We will miss you so much, my soulmate, our dad, our grandpa. "You are Forever in Our Hearts" Many thanks to the staff at the Red Deer Hospice for their excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gordon's memory to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnott Avenue, Red Deer, AB, T4R 3S6, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
