Obituary for Herbert Harold "Herb" Schatschneider

Herbert Harold "Herb"  Schatschneider
Mr. Herb Schatschneider of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Herb was born on April 7, 1930 at Brightview, Alberta and raised on the family farm where he stayed until the age of 22 years. He spent the next eighteen years working on the rigs, nine years in the packing plant and finally working as a caretaker at Mustang Acres for eighteen years before his retirement. Herb and Arletta moved eighteen times in their first twelve years of marriage before making Red Deer their forever home in 1966. He loved being outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and gardening. Herb enjoyed playing baseball, curling, tug-of-war, watching hockey, and could often be found keeping busy in his workshop. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Arletta; his children, Gerry (Kelly) Coulter, Randy (Raelene), Darcy (Carolyn) and Cordel (Jodi); his twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Alfred (Gertie); sisters, Elsie Waters, Freda Jess, Leona (Alton) Rix; sister-in-law, Freda Schatschneider; as well as extended family and many dear friends. Herb was predeceased by his parents, Rudolph and Martha; grandson, Chad Coulter; daughter-in-law Brenda Schatschneider; and siblings, Paul, Ed, Edith, Hedy Zielke and Albert. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at the Parkland Funeral Home, 6287 – 67A Street, Red Deer on Monday, April 20, 2015 between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 18 Selkirk Blvd., Red Deer, Alberta on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Alto Reste Cemetery, Red Deer, Alberta. If desired, Memorial Donations in Herb’s honour may be made directly to the Heart & Stoke Foundation of Alberta at www.heartandstroke.ab.ca., or to the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
