Obituary for Merle Ethel Brandvold

Merle Ethel Brandvold
BRANDVOLD, Merle Ethel
1938 – 2015

Merle Brandvold (nee Murphy) gave in to her fight for life and passed away peacefully at the age of 76, on Monday April 6th. Our Mom never gave up and never complained through all the health issues thrown at her until the very end.

Her smile embraced all who had the opportunity to share in that moment, and there were many moments. Her love of sun, fun, travel, golfing, and volunteering is only a small portion of the incredible life she lived. But nothing would get in her way of time with her grandsons.

Family and friends were Merle’s passion and delight. We could have been camping, playing games, enjoying one of her incredible meals, delving into a debate or just sitting and soaking up the sun on her front step, but always with love and laughter around us.

Merle was a very active member in the community and served on many boards including Habitat for Humanity, Red Deer and the Red Deer Golden Circle. She walked and fundraised for the Cancer Society and would help on any board that asked.

Travel was another love, she and her family travelled to many places and after she lost her husband, her children enjoyed taking her with them on many other trips.

Merle was born in Mossbank, Saskatchewan and is predeceased by her beloved husband, Stan, and her parents Melville (Buster) and Nancy Murphy. When she was young, she moved from Saskatchewan to their family farm near Blackfalds, then to Calgary and Regina before her final home in Red Deer.

Survivors include her two loving children - Richard (Bonnie) of Regina and two grandsons Benjamin and Timothy. Nancy (Francois Savard) of Red Deer and his daughter, Samantha McCully(Carter). Her sisters June Nolan (Bert), Marj Schell (Curly Walz), Claire (Joey) Shayler (Pete) and Shauna Harrison (Dennis) and her brothers Sheldon Murphy (Helen) and Keith (Skip) Murphy (Darlene). She also has many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in many heart-felt forms from too many people to name individually. Merle’s Celebration of Life will be held on April 24th at 1:00pm by Pastor Ken Lehman at the Crossroads Church, Corner of 32nd Street and Hwy 2, in Red Deer, AB.

Merle's love of flowers allows us to accept your gift of flowers and we ask them to be sent on the day we all say our last goodbyes to Crossroads Church

If you wish to make a donation in honour of Merle, we ask that you send it to an amazing organization in Red Deer that assists seniors with physical challenges – Red Deer Lending Cupboard, 5406C 43 Street, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 1C9, or the Canadian Liver Foundation, 2235 Sheppard Avenue E. Ste #1500, Toronto, Ontario M2J 5B5. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com.
