Obituary for Florence Lee Morelli

Florence Lee Morelli
Florence Morelli of Sylvan Lake passed away in Red Deer on Friday, April 3, 2015 at the age 84. Florence was born in Calgary, Alberta. She was raised on a farm in the Delacor/Conrich area east of Calgary. She rode her horse to school and kept her hands warm on the cold winter days with a hardboiled egg which she later ate for lunch. Times were definitely a struggle back in the day but contributed to the tough statute of our seniors of today. Florence was the baby for quite a while, being the little sister to Verda, Gilbert and Jimmy. After the passing of her mom, Elsie, her dad Bill married Hulda and Flo then ended up taking on the role of older sister to Richard and Linda. Florence married Gordon Madge and together they had five children; Shirley, Steven, Terry, Troy and Todd. While living in Calgary, Florence had various occupations from waitressing, drycleaner, window manufacture and many years at the Calgary General Hospital working in the Central Supply Room. She later decided to move to the Rocky Mountain House area with her second husband Mio and took up homesteading. This somehow led to her final and most loved career as a camp cook for the oil and gas industry. Flo got to see a lot of Alberta doing this job and she was a valued asset to any camp that was lucky enough to have her as their cook. She always prided herself on her cooking skills. Her next move was to Mirror, Alberta and eventually retired there with Lloyd. Retirement offered her and Lloyd a few years of traveling and lots of camping. Camping was so enjoyable to her. As health declined, the next move for her and Lloyd was to the Lodge in Sylvan Lake. The adjustment was tentative but acceptance was eventually a reality and while in the hospital the last six weeks her wish was to go back home - being the Lodge. She was looking forward to taking her coveted scooted down to the lake front which was a favorite pastime. She will be sadly missed by the Lodge residents. Her passing will leave a hole in the hearts of her family and friends. Rest in Peace. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her spouse Lloyd E. Hickethier, sons; Steven (Donna) Madge of Rocky Mountain House, Terry (Rachel) Madge of Red Deer and Todd (Sharon) Madge of Moosejaw, Saskatchewan, daughter Shirley Madge of Didsbury, fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and her sister Linda (Bill) Russell of Sylvan Lake. She was predeceased by her mother Elsie and father Bill, step mother Hulda, brothers; Gilbert, Jim and Richard, sister Verda, grandson Darren in 2008 and son Troy in 2011. An After Party in honor of Florence will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 8, 4911 – 49 Street, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Arrangements in care of Rhian Solecki, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
