Obituary for Joan Beauchamp (Crowe)

BEAUCHAMP, Joan
1923 – 2015

Joan Beauchamp passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Joan was born in Surrey, England in 1923, and spent most of her childhood years in the town of Farncombe. When World War II began, Joan decided to volunteer in the local canteen. It was here that she met her future husband, Stan, a handsome young Canadian soldier who would sweep her off her feet and away to the farm life near Drayton Valley, Alberta. Joan and Stan completed their family with both a son and a daughter. When it was time for them to retire and leave the farm, it was only fitting that they would move to Red Deer to be closer to their children, and to the grandchildren that were starting to arrive. Over the years, Joan developed and enjoyed many hobbies and talents. She was well known for baking homemade bread and making delicious jellies, as well as for knitting beautiful sweaters for all her family members. Joan was also a talented writer. For many years, she wanted to tell the story of her journey to Canada, and realized that dream when she wrote and published a short book in 2004. Joan was predeceased by Stan, her husband of 54 years, as well as her two sisters and two brothers. She is lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her son, Wayne (Pauline) and her daughter, Pam (Rob), as well as her five grandchildren, Silas, Eli, Jessica, Sean, and Brynna. A Funeral Service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 5212 – 47 Avenue, Drayton Valley, Alberta on Monday, March 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Joan’s honor may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association www.diabetes.ca or to S.T.A.R.S www.stars.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Maryann Hansen, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
