Obituary for Edith Mary Graham (Morgan)

Edith Mary Graham (Morgan)
Mrs. Edith Mary Graham (nee Morgan) of Red Deer, Alberta, died at her home on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at the age of 80 Years. Edith grew up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where her parents, Dave and Peg, worked at the Federal Department of Agriculture Research Station. Edith taught kindergarten first with the Fairview Kindergarten Society and then with the Red Deer School District. She was uncredentialed but unparalleled – so many children and teachers got a real good start from Edith. Some of those students still remember her fondly. She was a generous, gracious and a brilliant parent – protective and encouraging, opinionated, creative, mischievous and smart. Edith was a hub of any community she belonged to. Relationships were important to her and she loved her family and friends in word and deed. She was a good woman to have in your corner. You might have thought of her as quiet and shy but she would not roll over in the face of adversity. She was also a relentless and unrepentant punster. We will miss her very much. Edith will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Erin and son Shawn; daughter-in-law Wendy and her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Jeff and Cendra and their two sons, Dominick and Kash. She will also be missed by her sister Gwladys (Ron) and her brother Tom (Marilyn) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and eighty years of friends and neighbors. Edith was predeceased by her son, John Scott in 1961, her husband, John Graham in 2005, her parents, David and Margaret and two older brothers, Jim and Ed. A Celebration of Edith’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Edith’s honor may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 5105 – 48 Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1S9 or at www.diabetes.ca. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Ashley Paton, Funeral Director at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
