Obituary for Cecilia "Cecile" Dylke (Volk)

Cecilia "Cecile" Dylke (Volk)
Mrs. Cecilia ‘Cecile’ Dylke of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the age of 85 years. Cecile was born on February 18, 1929 at Macklin, Saskatchewan, the eighth in a family of thirteen children. She lived with her family on the family farm in Denzil, Saskatchewan until she completed her grade nine studies. She attended high school at the boarding school at Leipzig in Saskatchewan. After high school, she entered the community of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and went to the Motherhouse at Waterdown, Ontario for her postulancy. She studied Early Childhood Education at the University of Toronto in 1950 – 1951 and then spent several years working with pre-school children in the Kitchener-Waterloo Area in Ontario. In 1960, she decided to leave the convent and move back west. She ended up moving to Edmonton, Alberta that same year. She worked as a librarian at St. Joseph’s High School until she met and married her love and true soul mate, Willard Dylke, in 1963. They had three children; Richard, born in 1964, Marie-Claire, born in 1965, and Celine, born in 1967. Cecile embraced being a wife and mother and dedicated herself fully to her husband and children. She also felt a strong desire to contribute to the community and was an active participant in her church parish. Her natural love for children also led her to volunteer at the local school. She regularly worked with the elderly at a nearby senior’s residence and later with the Palliative Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Edmonton. Cecile remained in Edmonton and watched over her children as they each left home and then lovingly cared for her husband as he became ill and died from cancer in 1996. After this time, she pursued more of her own interests. She took art classes and derived great pleasure from drawing and painting. She remained in Edmonton until the birth of her second grandchild in Calgary in 2003. Again, the love of family and service to others drew her to move there to be closer to her grandchildren and to help her daughter, Marie, care for her family. She remained in Calgary until 2006 and moved with her daughter and family to Salmon Arm, British Columbia. There she helped out with childcare and gardening and enjoyed the beauty of the Shuswap. She and her daughter and two grandchildren returned to Alberta in 2012. She continued to live with her daughter in Red Deer until January of 2014 at which time her health began to decline. At that time, she chose to move to an assisted living residence nearby so that she could continue to see her family and be a part of her grandchildren’s lives. She continued to be of service to her family and lovingly cared for her children and grandchildren until her death on October 19, 2014. Cecile will be lovingly remembered by her son, Richard Dylke of Edmonton, Alberta, her daughters, Celine Dylke of Edmonton, Alberta and Marie Dylke of Red Deer and two grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Sister M. Adela of Waterdown, Ontario, Edith Boser of Unity, Saskatchewan, Dora (Roger) Lemmerick of Kelowna, British Columbia, Bernie Boser of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Adella Brophy of Edmonton, Alberta and Betty (Jack) Kotowsky of Kelowna, British Columbia. Cecile was predeceased by her husband Willard Dylke in 1996, three brothers, Mike Volk, Joseph Volk and Len Volk and three sisters, Sister Mary Adelaide, Katherine Deck and Margaret Ridley. A Celebration of Cecile’s Life will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer, Alberta on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. If desired, Memorial Donations in Cecile’s honor may be made directly to the Parkinson Alberta at www.parkinsonalberta.ca.
